For almost two thousand years, York played an important role in Britain's history and even now the vestiges of the past can be seen everywhere. The Clifford's Tower is the remaining part of the York castle and it is overlooking the city, while the York Minster is the most distinctive structure within the city. If you are a fan of long walks, the city center provides an excellent opportunity, enclosed within the medieval walls. If you are lucky enough to find accommodation in the city center, then virtually everything will be accessible by foot.
Don't linger too much in the hotel though, because you might be missing the pantomime performed at Theatre Royal, or a number executed by the amateur dramatics groups. Festivals range from the York Early Music Festival to gastronomic ones such as the Festival of Food and Drink.
